Sport & broadcasting FocusPod Meet

Cricket Australia in Mackay. A clear view of the game.

The work behind a regional cricket match

Taking cricket to regional stadiums brings the game closer to local communities. Behind the action on the field, it also brings a busy working day for the people keeping score, calling the play and covering the match.

Those teams need to stay close to the game, but each has a different job to do. Scorers need a place to concentrate on every delivery. Commentators need somewhere to speak and work together. Media teams need a base for following the action and preparing their coverage.

For Cricket Australia, the brief was to provide dedicated spaces for those roles as matches moved into regional venues. The solution was four FocusPod Meet pods.

Four pods, with room for different roles

The four-pod arrangement created separate enclosed workspaces within the stadium setting. It gave different teams a place of their own while keeping their work connected to the same match.

The FocusPod Meet provided room for a shared working setup. In the Mackay footage, tables and chairs face the field through the glass, with the pods arranged along the viewing area. Scorers’ signage and broadcaster labels make the purpose of the spaces immediately clear.

That separation matters when several tasks happen at once. Commentary is an active conversation; scorekeeping calls for sustained attention. Giving those activities their own rooms makes the space around the match more useful.

A clear view of every ball

For this installation, the outlook was central to the brief. The people inside needed to see what was happening on the field while working from a defined, enclosed space.

The glass frontage keeps the ground in view. Inside, the footage shows work surfaces, seating and overhead lighting, with the playing field directly beyond. The pod provides a place to settle in without losing that visual connection to the game.

It is a different use for a meeting pod, shaped by the task. Here, the room is organised around watching, recording and communicating what happens on the field.

Supporting the match beyond the boundary

A stadium’s working spaces are part of how a match is delivered. For regional venues, the brief goes beyond finding seats for spectators: the people supporting the game also need practical places to work.

Cricket Australia’s four FocusPod Meet pods added those dedicated spaces at Mackay. Together, they show how a familiar pod format can serve a specialist setting, with the layout and position driven by the needs of scorers, commentators and media.

Planning a similar venue setup?

Start with the teams who need to work at the same time, the equipment they use and the view they need. Then consider the position of each pod, access around it, power, cable routes and temperature control.

FocusPod’s standard pods are designed for indoor use. A stadium project needs a suitable protected setting and a site-specific installation plan. Talk to us about your venue, review installation and site access or explore the FocusPod Meet to start planning.

Planning a similar space?

Start with the work around the game

Match the number of enclosed spaces to the teams working at the same time, then plan sightlines, equipment, power and the surrounding venue conditions.
